Just like with everything in life use your common sense. If you feel discomfort or that something is wrong, STOP doing what you are doing. It could be Plow Posture or Shoulder Stand, or even breathing exercise.
In the last week I read two articles about premature deaths of yogis and karate masters. In many of those cases deaths were related to the breathing exercises. Holding your breath too long may be very bad for you. If you have to let it go, do it. If you are in the class, don't be afraid to be the first to inhale or exhale.
