A group of Christian parents in California have threatened to sue a school district for introducing yoga in classrooms. Are they right? As silly as this may sound they may have a point.
Even if a class doesn't have any elements, like chanting, that may have religious undertones the names of poses or sequences have religious meaning. For example: Sun Salutations. Adults may hear the name and not even blink, never even stop to think what does it mean. Kids however, may stop and wonder if they really have to "salute" the sun and/or bow to it.
So, let's not forget that we are talking about young minds that could be easily influenced. Also, I don't remember yoga or martial arts class where there was not one person going totally "nuts" about Zen, Buddhism or Hinduism. Do you?
