Yoga Journal claims that Shoulderstand is one of the oldest and most therapeutic of the asanas.
While I agree that this pose is both calming and stimulating I would advise you to be careful. Don't go "cold turkey" and stay in this pose for five minutes the very first time. Start with 30 seconds. See how you feel and how your body reacts to it and then slowly increase the time. If you feel pressure or that something is wrong stop it. You can always try it during your next session.
